Philosophy

Learning through play is a concept where children are primary agents in their own education and development. We provide a bilingual environment that stimulates exploration, and a programme built according to the children's interests and needs. Our many dramatic play corners provide a way to imitate and try out various adult and social roles. Positive self-image and social skills will help children to express their emotions and feelings.

Academics

Literacy through play is fun and learning combined. Toddlers are exposed to the alphabet through stories and songs. (Pre-) writing & reading skills, phonics, numbers and mathematical concepts are introduced in a playful way, without lines and lines of copying numbers and letters. This early soft- introduction will let children gain natural interests in these subjects which will lead to an enhanced and broadened understanding and provides the fundamentals for future learning.

At SEIPS we prepare children for international schools.

Didactics

Repeating various project topics throughout the preschool years supports understanding and learning. It also deepens knowledge and moves children to higher levels of thinking. The aim is to teach children how to gain knowledge and solve problems on their own.

Using four steps from the “pyramid concept” teachers are guides in this process where they give children the opportunity to distance themselves from a topic so they can develop their own learning strategies. Introductions to new topics will always start with something that is familiar to the child and is directly related to its environment or experience. This step is called “orientation”. Children develop interests, and questions come up; demonstrations take place (second step), followed by broadening (third step) where detailed information is discovered. The fourth and last step, “deepening”, is usually initiated by the children themselves. Using their improved knowledge they can make connections and link facts to other topics.

Children will move from things that are present, familiar and safe to things that are not present, must be imagined or take place in the past or future. The Mandarin and English Teachers both work on the same topic for a certain period of time to ensure a good understanding and let children gain similar vocabularies in both languages.
